Kidney Stones, Evil Eyes, and Fourth Grade Assignments

Here's what's new:
Jason has been fighting a long battle with a kidney stone (going on three weeks) although it doesn't bother him most of the time. He is an expert on a variety of theories on how to get rid of a kidney stone...currently he's trying the soda and asparagus route.

Addie figured out how to roll over last week! She only rolls to the left from her back to her belly, but you gotta start somewhere. She also met Santa Claus last Saturday night at our ward Christmas party and she couldn't have cared less. She was way more interested in the candy cane she got. Our tenant downstairs had a birthday a few days ago and Addie got one of his balloons. She loved it! I've never seen her play with something for so long! I'll post pictures later (because I took a million and a half).

Here's a funny conversation I heard the other day at Michael's : Daughter (about 6 yrs old) "This must be a picture of a boy pirate because he's got weapons." Mom: "Girls can have weapons, too. But people don't need weapons because we can just talk about our problems instead of fight about them." Maybe you had to be there.

Here's a weird thought I had yesterday: I was thinking about making a hat for Addie because her head is now too big for most of the hats we have for her. Her cheeks have been kind of dry lately because of the cold and so I thought, "Why not a ski mask?" Of course I instantly dismissed it, but the idea put a crazy image in my head. Try it.

I just remembered something else unusual that happened to me: a lady asked if she could touch Addie. She explained that where she is from (Texas) they have a belief/ myth that if you admire a baby but don't touch it you'll give the the Evil Eye and they'll get sick. So, of course I said yes because no child of mine is going to get some crazy Evil Eye (that and I had been talking to her for a little bit and she was really nice and made tasty pumpkin muffins).

I recently remembered about a school assignment that I had in the fourth grade where I was supposed to pick a word that had two meanings (like season: the time of year and to add spices to a dish) and make a poster about it. I picked the word "curly". I felt so dumb when we all set up our posters and had our parents come through because I suddenly realized (with the help of fellow classmates, "You did it wrong! You picked a dumb word!") that I had misunderstood the assignment. I was really embarrassed. So, I have been thinking of words with double meanings lately just to reassure myself that I can. Sub: a sandwich, underwater vessel, and temporary teacher. Pen: a writing utensil and an animal container. Well: a source of water and a state of health. I find this to be a good mental exercise. Anyway, that's what I've been up to.
