Escape to Logan

We punched Salt Lake City in the face last Friday and ran away to Logan...well, just for the weekend anyway. The Walkers kindly took us in, fed us fabulous meals and let us stay a night. Addie enjoyed it so much she thought she'd sleep through the night for the first time. I'd mention that she's been sleeping through the night every night since then, but I don't want to jinx it. We played away the day with the likes of the Walkers, Matt and Abbey, Zach, Tim, and the lovely Liz (whom we met briefly before we had to mope our way back to SLC). We watched Mad Monster Party, a movie made by the same folks that made the "animagic" Rudolph and Frosty movies (look at Zach's blog for more info). It was pretty enjoyable and had some good yet subtle jokes in it...unfortunately we don't know how it ends due to the condition our library DVD was in. On Saturday the ladies went shopping while our counterparts went to blow up a dryer. I would normally jump at the opportunity to watch something explode, but I must have somehow known that they would forget the catalyst for the tannerite. The lack of catalystic powers resulted in an uneventful trip and an intact dryer. We, (meaning the girls), however, had a great time shopping! We all had lunch at the Indian Oven (quite tasty by the way) where the owner told us we didn't have to pay if we didn't like the food. We paid though...in fact, we paid more than we meant to. Jason miscalculated the tip and gave a pretty big one on accident and, for those of you that know Jason's terminal thrifty condition, it's been bothering him ever since. Don't worry, he'll be fine. We then went to Paradise (yep, Paradise is right here in Utah) to pick some pumpkins in a patch (I tried to make it sound like a tongue-twister for reader-enjoyment). It was already picked through, but that turned out to be a good thing for J and I because we still had a hard time selecting one from the ten they had. It may not be a well-known fact that J and I are incredibly indecisive people...how we decided to get married I'll never know. After spending some time watching UFC at Tim/Zach's place, we had to tearfully say goodbye and ...I just took a...really?! I was just about to write that I just took a break from writing this to go change Addie's clothes and my pants since she just peed on my leg (thanks diaper, for doing your job) when, after dressing her in new clothes, she puked all down the front of herself...and now she just pooped. Atleast that didn't leak, knock on wood. Let me just quickly finish what I was saying before I end this to go change her again: we said goodbye and then made a highly-secretive stop in the darkness outside Schreiber's Foods to make a cheese transaction with Tork. Mmmm-mmm cheese! In conclusion we had a great weekend and we were greatly upset by having to come home. One last thing: I have come to terms with my new shade of haircolor by calling it "caramel" instead of "not-blonde-anymore-due-to-pregnancy-hormones-and-now-I'm-having-identity-issues-because-I've-always-been-a-blonde light brown". Goodbye Bloggers, hello dirty diaper.

Simpsonized

Today was a boring day, aside from the fact that we all got Simpsonized.

Snot, Salt, and Dirty Bloodsuckers

We are all currently sick at our house, even little Addie. Its so sad when babies are sick! She has a stuffy little nose and a cute but sad little cough. We have to suction her nose out so she can breathe. She used to think it was funny, but I think her nose is getting a little sore so now she cries and tries to avoid the bulb...causing us to poke her in the face when we're trying to get it in her nose. I just posted a thingy at the bottom of our blog that keeps track of her age because, sadly, I keep forgetting how old she is. Isn't it terrible that she's been alive all of three months and I already can't keep track of how old she is? So, I put that on our blog pretty much just for me.

We went to Antelope Island in the Great Salt Lake on Free State Park Day and it was a blast! We invited so many people to come with us, but it ended up just being us three because no one else could come. Suckers. We saw some buffalo (and got some exciting footage of them scratching themselves on large rocks) and we went in the lake. We took turns holding Addie and swimming since we didn't want to put her in the lake (imagine how some salt would feel in a diaper rash!). We did dangle her toes in the water though, although she really couldn't have cared less. There were a lot of brine shrimp (as usual) and I hate finding them in my swimsuit later. Did you know that you can float in just one foot of water there? We got nice and salt encrusted and gave ourselves awesome salt mohawks (you just dip your hair in, shape it, and let it dry in one crusty 'do)...I was hoping our sparkly salt crusts would act as armor and deter bugs from biting us, but it didn't. The mosquitoes started to aggressively attack us on the 1/2 mile walk back to the car. We protected Addie like the Holy Grail. They were so bad that we just jumped into the car without showering, leaving salt all over the seats. The war didn't end there. Mosquitoes had followed us in and we had to smash them all to save ourselves from otherwise inevitable death. We drove to a safe spot and got out to examine our battle wounds and to put the baby in her carseat (we had to get out of there as fast as humanly possible...no time for baby-strapping). Addie had no bites, Jason had eight, and I had nine all on one leg. We saw one of the prettiest sunsets I have ever seen and a rabbit. We checked out a few more buffalo and antelope on our way out. We stopped at Carl's Jr. for some burgers and headed home to eat, shower, and watch a movie. It was truly fun and truly memorable. I'll post photos on the next Grand Photo Post.
