Easter

I am home recovering from my awful and sudden illness that I had yesterday while my family is at church.  It was cute to watch Addie and Jason eat their breakfasts together, all dressed up in their Sunday clothes.  I guess I need to get better at recognizing the sweet little moments that go on around here, since it took lying on the couch with a bellyache for me to really notice.  They were out getting in the car when Addie suddenly came running back, swung the door open and yelled, "We love you more than the whole world!" and then slammed the door and ran away again.  I sure love being a mom, especially for that little girl!  Anyway, I thought I'd take a little time to finally post about Easter.

Addie was very excited about the Easter Bunny this year and kept asking questions like, "Where does he live?"  "Why does he come at night?" "What does his house look like?"  So we hopped online and found out.  He lives on Easter Island (makes sense, right?) and takes a boat full of Easter eggs to people's houses.  His house is made out of candy with a pink frosting roof.  I don't think I could make up a better story, and this one comes with pictures!

The day before Easter we dyed Easter eggs.  This is the first year Addie has been able to do it all by herself, and she loved it!

Aren't they beautiful?  Jason made the swirly-marbled ones by adding oil our blue dye.

After Easter-egging, we went fishing at a local fishing pond.  We didn't catch a thing, but it was fun anyway.

Easter morning Addie got us up at 7.  She was more excited for Easter than Christmas, I think.  The Easter Bunny brought her: a pop-up firetruck, a Bible Stories book, an Easter tic-tac-toe game, some blueberries, some candy, and a whole lotta magic gel balls.  We played with those all day.  (That's what's in the bowl in front of her.)  The firetruck was especially sneaky since Addie had seen it at the D.I. a few days before this and loved it.  She asked, "How did the Easter Bunny know I wanted this?"  J told her that he had sent him a little note about it.

After church my parents and brothers came over for the annual Easter Egg Hunt.  We made a haul on candy and Addie got a jump rope.  She loves jumping, so this is the perfect gift.  She still needs some practice, but she does pretty well.

Here she is eating candy off the ground from an egg that she opened.  She was cramming it in like she hadn't eaten in days.

Addie and Uncle Stevie, after the hunt.

Addie, pleased as could be with her basket of candy.

Then we went to my parents' house for the annual Easter Egg Rolling, where we take the eggs we dyed and roll them down a hill to crack them.  This is an Utley tradition, and a fun one at that.  We usually do a more rocky hill, but this year we just did the driveway.  Nikita, the dog, kept catching them and eating them.

Then we all went inside for the delicious Easter dinner my mom made.  It was a good Easter indeed.

During the lunch break on Conference Saturday a few weekends ago we decided to get our kite out and head to the nearby school field.  It's one of those trick kites with two strings, and J is pretty good at getting it to do turns and flips.

The wind was just right, and it was nice and warm.  J and Addie have kite-flying skills.  I have kite-crashing skills.  Hey, you never know when you might need my skills to help bring a kite down.

Addie went in to use the bathroom the other day, and when she didn't come out for awhile I went in to check on her.  I guess she was just feeling pooped.  I was amazed she could stay asleep while I cleaned her up and put her in bed.  I wish I had sleeping powers like that.
